We’re still here!
As you have probably read or heard, on Monday Robert and I sold the Times to Ballantine Communications, the owner of the Durango Herald and three other newspapers.
I can honestly say this is a huge relief.
Ballantine will be taking over distribution, advertising and most of the business functions, while Carole and I will be more able to focus on news, photography, and articles of interest to local readers.
I have to admit, it is a little bittersweet. As my husband can tell you, I am exceedingly stubborn, and not being able to turn the newspaper into a multi-national publishing conglomerate was somewhat of a blow.
But being able to keep the newspaper moving into the 21st century, particularly with a company that has the resources to do it successfully, is truly exciting. With the changing world of media, Ballantine Communications is focusing on websites, mobile news, a new online television station, and numerous other developments. It’s an exciting time to be in the news and information business.
I’ve been busy meeting with lots of department heads this week to start getting the logistics worked out, so if I haven’t returned your phone calls or e-mails, please accept my apologies. I’m hoping to catch up next week.
In the meantime, Carole and I are still here, working downtown on Mill Street with the office cat, Millie. As always, please feel free to stop in. We love to talk with our readers.
Thank you so much to the readers and advertisers who have helped Robert and me during the past 11-plus years. I told my friends in the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that I truly respect anyone who has the ability to run a small business because it takes an incredible amount of diligence and work.
I will continue to remain active with our local chambers of commerce, as well as some other new projects!
I’m proud to say the Pine River Valley is my home. My family is here and I’m glad I have a job here.
Thanks for reading.
