Ignacio celebrates 114th San Ignacio Fiesta

The Threadgill family float, commemorating Ignacio's tri-ethnic community, won the grand prize in the Fiesta parade Saturday. More parade photos are on Page 3.

Ignacio area residents turned out last weekend to celebrate San Ignacio Fiesta.

The Saturday morning parade featured colorful floats with lots of tossed candy, Latino bands, and since this is an election year, politicians. After the parade, people moved to Shoshone Park to patronize food and craft vendors, and especially to sit in the shade and visit with friends or watch the horseshoe tournament.

Horseshoe winners in doubles were Gene Gurule and Jeremy Padilla in first place, Jim Squires and Rod W. second, and Lenny Blair and Mason Carpenter third. Singles winners were Gene Gurule first, Dean Hudson second, and Mason Carpenter third.

Sage Medicine-Blanket was crowned Fiesta Queen at the Saturday night dance at Sky Ute Casino. First Attendant was Selena Cook, Second Attendant Tori Archuleta, and Third Attendant Jazmin Carmenoros.

Sunday activities were all at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, which organizes the fiesta.
