Steven Richard Hine

Steve Hine

Bayfield resident Steven Richard Hine died Oct. 12, 2014. Steve was a lifelong resident of La Plata County.

Steve died in a horse accident doing one of the things he loved the most, working cows on the mountain. Steve and his wife, Linda, enjoyed countless hours on their horses doing any job that honored the cowboy way of life.

Steve grew up in the Animas Valley and will always be remembered for his unshakable work ethic. He was well known for his topnotch fence work, logging, log home building, and the dying art of hunting and packing. Steve rode the mountains from Cascade to Missionary Ridge to Balding without batting an eye. He was a member of a dying breed of hard-nosed men.

Steve is survived by his wife Linda Hine; his sons and daughters-in-law, Rich and Jennifer Hine of Bayfield and Tim and Staci Hine of North Brand, Minn.; grandsons Chance, Bodie, Jake, Hays and Weston Hine; and great-granddaughter Paisley. He also is survived by his brothers, Jim Gray and Andy Gray.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Jenny Gray, and Bob Hine.

A gathering in celebration of Steve's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at the Bayfield Lions Club.
