BHS moving into regional play Nov. 1

The Bayfield Wolverine volleyball and football teams will play in regional action Saturday, Nov. 1. The girls host the 3A volleyball Region 3 tournament on Saturday, while the football team hits the road to play Faith Christian at 1 p.m. in Arvada.

The girls games start at 9 a.m. at BHS, with the third-ranked Wolverines playing #35 Estes Park. Then the Wolverines play Grand Valley, ranked 22nd, at approximately noon. Estes Park and Grand Valley will play in between the two BHS games. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students and seniors. The champions from the 12 regional tournaments will move onto the state tournament Nov. 7-8 at the Denver Coliseum. Pagosa Springs also is hosting regional action for Region 10.

in football, Bayfield is ranked ninth in playoff ratings, Faith Christian is eighth. The winner will take on the winner of the Brush-Moffat County game, also this Saturday. Brush is ranked first in the playoffs, Moffat County is 16th. Other playoff teams from the Western Slope are Gunnison, which is ranked fifth, and Montezuma Cortez, ranked seventh.

At 3A state cross country on Oct. 25, BHS senior Trevor Gabbard suffered from cramps and finished in the middle of the field. His year isn't over, however, as he gets ready to compete in the Nike Cross Southwest competition on Nov. 22 in Casa Grande, Arizona.
