Aria Crane receives surprise phone call

Jase Robertson of 'Duck Dynasty' calls Bayfield cancer patient

Aria Crane received an important phone call Nov. 13.

Jace Robertson of "Duck Dynasty" called to tell her hello, and he discussed his family's famous facial hair with the Bayfield cancer patient.

She asked if he shampoos and conditions his long beard. Robertson said he doesn't, but his brother Jeb does.

Also, Uncle Si has a crooked beard because he gets it caught in his shotgun, she said.

A family friend goes to church with the Robertsons and told them about Aria. The 12-year-old Bayfield girl is undergoing her second round of treatment for lymphoma at Children's Hospital in Denver.

"It was cool," Crane said of the phone call, adding that the TV star said he hopes her health continues to improve.

Ignacio High School Principal Melanie Taylor called the Times that day to relay the news. Aria's dad, Brian Crane, is the information technology specialist for Ignacio schools, and he was at work when his daughter texted him about the phone call. Taylor excitedly told the rest of the school about the phone call.

Crane's friends and family have held numerous fundraisers for the family as mom Wendy stays with Aria at Brent's Place in Denver, a special home for children receiving medical treatment. Dad Brian and their other two children visit Denver as often as they can.

A benefit concert will be held at 7 p.m. at Bayfield High School, featuring the Bar D Wranglers. A silent auction and bake sale also will be held to help the family. Tickets are nearly sold out, and the doors open at 6 p.m. for silent auction bids to begin. Donations to Aria Crane also can be made at Pine River Valley Bank.
