April 9-11 was a weekend of competition, recognition, and making new friends for Family, Community and Community Leaders of America who attended the 2015 Colorado state conference in Denver.

Bayfield High School brought three students to this conference, and experienced all the conference activities. From state officers hosting them through the designed-themed conference, to the outside speakers who came to share their leadership tips and hints, students were able to gain a lot from this weekend.

Thursday, students experienced the Youth Expo, where they could speak with colleges and exhibitors. The evening was filled with a welcome from Kayelani Kirschbaum, 2014-2015 Colorado State President, as well as a great opening session where they got to meet the current state officers, officer candidates, and special guests and discovered iconic movies and the impact they had on society. On Friday, all the hard work BHS put into competitive events finally paid off, it was competition day!

Bayfield High School was proud to have students compete in Recycle and Redesign. Chelsea Meyer, a sophomore at BHS, created a prom dress from an old sleeping bag without using a pattern. Shylie Gosney, a junior, used tent netting and an old scarf wrap to create a skirt and top. Awards for their achievements were given out Saturday, and both competitors Bayfield High School received silver medals.

Colorado FCCLA is one of 52 state chapters of FCCLA, a career and technical student organization focusing on family, career preparation, and leadership development. Colorado FCCLA started in 1946 and has grown to over 110 chapters with over 2,600 members. FCCLA includes competitive events, chapter activities, and leadership opportunities. National FCCLA began in 1945 and has more than 210,000 members.
