Cotton earns Alamosa invite

Ignacio's Sky Cotton makes possessing the ball quite an unenviable chore for 4A Durango's Taylor Edwards (22) during non-league action inside Fort Lewis College's Whalen Gymnasium during the 2014-15 season. Cotton's prep career will officially conclude at Adams State University in Alamosa as a participant in the 59th Annual CHSCA All-State Games' four-team girls' basketball feature.

Known to rock the 'Batman' logo-whether on a hat, shirt, or even shoes-prior to play during her time at Ignacio High, the Bobcats' sprite knight will get to rise to one last prep-level challenge.

Now-graduated guard Sky Cotton will hit the court Saturday, June 13, inside at Adams State University for the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games. She will be coached by 5A Castle Rock Coach Matt Hema and 4A Littleton Coach John Britz.

And as luck would have it, Cotton's last chance to represent IHS will come alongside some very familiar faces-including two non-league standouts against whom she began her outstanding senior season.

Plucked from 3A State Champions Pagosa Springs, posts Payton Shahan and Morgan Schaaf will be featured on the select squad, as will fellow Intermountain Leaguer Leah Aziz of La Jara Centauri.

1A Elbert forward Lauren Pearson, 2A Del Norte post Morgan Mosby and 2A Ault Highland post Jamie Clawson will contribute more small-school spirit while CV forward Mikayla Gonzales, 4A Pueblo South guard Jaylyn Duran and 5A Fountain-Fort Carson guard Amber Perryman will do so from CHSAA's upper tiers.

Players were to check in Thursday, June 11 at ASU's Coronado Hall, with the girls' semifinals to take place at 9 and 10:30 a.m. on June 13. At 1 p.m., the girls' third-place game will be contested, with the finale on the Grizzlies' floor then following the boys' third-place clash.
