Lightning starts small fire between Lemon, Vallecito reservoirs

The Columbine Ranger District is monitoring a small lightning-caused fire on National Forest lands between Lemon and Vallecito reservoirs, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service. The fire is less than a 10th of an acre. It was reported by a nearby resident on Sunday and is a few miles northwest of any private property. Because of current wet ground conditions and the forecast for monsoon rains this weekend, firefighters think the potential of the fire spreading is low. A small amount of smoke may be visible from nearby county roads, but at this time is not being reported. The small fire is within the perimeter of the burned area of the Missionary Ridge Fire, and standing dead trees pose a risk to firefighters.
