IHS volleycats celebrate in Simla

The Ignacio volleyball girls made a long trip Saturday, but it paid off with a big win in the 2015 Simla Invitational.

IHS had entered the tournament ranked 10th in the CHSAANow.com Class 2A poll and Rye sixth, but Ignacio-victorious 3 games to 0 over Vail Mountain earlier in the day-prevailed 25-21, 23-25, 27-29, 25-20, 15-12 to claim a spot in the invitational's championship.

Before leaving Elbert County, IHS also picked up quality wins over Vail Mountain (3 to 0) and then-#6 Rye (3 to 2) to improve to 6-2 overall prior to Homecoming Week action versus Telluride last night in 2A/1A San Juan Basin League action. Results were unavailable at press time.

IHS swept Vail Mountain 25-18, 25-13, 25-15. The girls didn't stop until claiming first place with subsequent wins over Rye and Hoehne. Improving to 6-2 overall-and up to #7 in the CHSAANow.com Class 2A rankings-the 'Cats hosted Telluride last night in 2A/1A San Juan Basin League play, but results were unavailable at press time. IHS heads to Dolores tomorrow for a SJBL triangular with DHS and Nucla.
