A change of venue worked out for the Bayfield girls' track team SAturday. Bayfield recorded its top result at the 2016 Warrior Invitational hosted by 5A Grand Junction Central at Stocker Stadium.
Freshman Tymbree Florian, junior Maddi Foutz, freshman Shaylea Freier and junior Amber Johnson brought their baton around the track in 52.95 seconds to place fourth in the 4x100 relay. 4A Palisade won in 50.51. The relay team's finish helped BHS to 11th in the team standings.
The Wolverines scored 20 points overall, trailing 5A Fruita Monument's 26 for the last top-ten spot, as well as the top three of 5A Brighton (107), PHS (94) and Grand Junction (86).
The 4x200 of Florian, Foutz, junior Bridget Goddard and Johnson placed a scoring fifth with a 1:52.19 effort. Bayfield's 4x400-Foutz, Goddard, junior Isis Gonzales, Johnson-was a scoring sixth in 4:32.02.
Also chipping in to the cause, Goddard was sixth in the 800 (2:30.88) and Johnson took sixth in the 300m hurdles with her time of 51.91 seconds.
Freshman Mikayla Barnes placed seventh in the shot put (31'6.25") while Florian just missed a team point with her ninth-place long jump of 15'8.25", and sophomore Tiarra Christensen did likewise in the shot (ninth, 30'5").
Gonzales was 10th in the 400 (1:05.02) and Christensen placed 12th in the discus (82'6"), while the Wolverines' fates in the shortest sprints were decided in fractional increments of time.
Separated by only five hundredths of a second, Freier (14.01) and Florian (14.06) went 15-16 in the 100, and Foutz missed 12th in the 200 by four thousandths to 1A Collbran Plateau Valley senior Laura Greene. Her 28.612 was faster across the line than Foutz's 28.616.
This weekend Bayfield heads to the Terry Alley Invitational in Pagosa Springs.
