Basketball mom wants attention brought to coaching situation

I, Tracie Baker, did go to the Bayfield school board last week regarding the BHS girls basketball coach and the actions and treatment to the girls this past season. There have been many comments, which I am thankful everyone can have their own opinion, but as adults there should be no tearing down of the kids.

Many adults, who have been coaches themselves, know what can happen behind scenes and until they experience what we have been referring to should not judge the kids. I can speak firsthand, my daughter did go to the coach, I have spoken with the coach, the athletic director, the principal, the superintendent and now the school board because my concerns were not being addressed, just brushed under the rug with excuses.

My daughter did not even know I was going to the meeting, so that also proves I do not fight her battles for her. I have manned up and have not gone behind anyone's back, I have not stated anything that has not been said to the previous people. My kids do fight their own battles and that is why they are successful, so that statement does offend me. After two separate ACL tears and eight months of therapy for each knee to rehabilitate under medical care and this past year of playing, that proves my daughter fights her own battles!

She was encouraged to push harder and work harder but I think it could have been in a more positive and diplomatic way as well as other incidents this year.

I have NOT wished bad things for anyone and my goal was to bring it to the board's attention what happened this year, and I spoke for many girls and parents who have chosen not to come forward. =Again, everyone has the right and the option. The school board was very professional and listened to my concerns and I thank them. Whatever happens, if the coach goes or stays, my goal has been reached - TO BRING ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER and seeing some of the conversations and comments, mission accomplished.
