Local blues, rock, jazz filling Eagle Park on Saturday

The Transplants will headline Bayberry Jam this Saturday in Bayfield's Eagle Park.

Got your jam?

Bayberry Jam, the town's local music festival, will fill Eagle Park from noon to 7 p.m. tomorrow in downtown Bayfield.

Music is being performed by local talent throughout the day, including Bayfield High School's very own jazz band, Outlier, at noon, directed by Derek Smith.

The Jelly Bellys Boogie Band takes the stage at 1 p.m. The Jelly Bellies are a local favorite classic rock and roll band consisting of Ted Hockenbury, vocals, guitar, and more; Charlie Harmer and Randy Crumbaugh, vocals and guitar; and drummer Todd Kirkland.

Mile Marker 4 will then take the stage featuring the youth talents of band members Savannah Kaufmann, lead guitar and vocals; Bella Sage on keyboard and vocals; Tiarra Christiensen, drums; and Callie Jung, guitar and vocals. These young women perform original song compositions now being recognized in the music world.

To wrap up the event, the Transplants will fill the park with blues, soul, and rock and roll. Lead singer Kellie Lillyquist was a recent finalist at the Durango Idol Competition. Other band members include Chuck Blaser, guitarist, who will also be contributing his time and talent to managing the sound system for the day; as well as Dan Hancock on bass guitar; Jessie Horton on lead guitar; and John Barker, drummer, who is donating his drum set for the event as well.

The Bayfield Association for the Advancement of Music founded this event as a way to promote awareness and to raise funding for the needs of the Bayfield youth music programs from elementary through high school development. Everything from instruments, sheet music, scholarships, and marching band uniforms, to name a few, has been the result of the BAAM's efforts.

"We are very grateful to our local community of musicians who are donating their time and talent to this awesome event," organizers said. "We would also like to thank Southwest Ag for their donation of a tractor to pull the kids train donated by the Bayfield Lions Club."

BHS band members and their families will help run the events, which will include volleyball and ladder ball games donated by the Town of Bayfield, water games, and hula hoop. Local vendors include food and beverages by Back Porch Barbecue, ice cream by Lydia's Sweet Treats, beer donated by Ska Brewing, photography by Amie Whitmore, and art by Abbie Sporl of Fantango Designs.

This year the event will also feature a pie auction with pies donated by local culinary talents, including Baked. The festivities will conclude with a collaborative community dinner with the Pine River Shares from 5 to 7 p.m.

"Other towns in the Four Corners are renowned for their music festivals," the organizers noted. "This is Bayfield's very own with music, food, and fun all provided by Bayfield celebrities in their own right. BAAM would like to invite the Four Corners community to come out and enjoy and support this worthwhile event."

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students K-12, and free for 5 years and younger.
