Vallecito Marina receives $49,000 grant

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has awarded a $49,000 grant to Vallecito Marina for an expansion scheduled for 2017.

The Vallecito Conservation and Sporting Association has been awarded a $49,000 grant on behalf of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife's "Fishing is Fun" review panel.

The funding is intended to support acquisition and installation of two dock extensions and ramps, and expanded public angling access at Vallecito Marina for the 2017 season.

"In our efforts to grow the Vallecito Marina for expanded use of the dock area for fishing and access to boating and slips, this grant is making our plans possible," said Lisa Bourque, a board member and secretary of the association.

New docks will be ordered in the fall of 2016 for a 2017 installation, in time for the second full season for the Vallecito Marina.

The marina re-opened last summer after the previous owner ceased operations there.

The VCSA was also recently awarded a grant via La Plata Electric Association's "Round Up" program.

The funds were used for more lighting on the marina main building dock as well as flush-mount lighting on the slips to enhance customer safety.
