Rain, cold did not faze Heritage Day dinner

A very wet and cold Friday, Sept. 23, didn't keep hearty folks from coming out to support the Pine River Valley Heritage Society Museum's annual fundraiser.

The museum had more than 1,240 visitors who signed our guest book this season, the most ever!

Setting up protective floor tarps was delayed as the girls were still playing volleyball in the old gym Friday.

It is a big task setting up tables, chairs, music and food areas, and we appreciated everyone's help to make up lost time.

We opened the doors a half hour early to get folks in out of the cold. Thanks to those who helped and were patient and good-natured about the delay.

State Rep. J. Paul Brown and his six Navajo sheepherders joined us for the event even after they had trailed more than 1,200 sheep on County Road 501 in the rain and cold. The sheep were put to bed outside of town resting for Saturday's drive up the Buck Highway. Without the sheep and Brown and his herders, we wouldn't be celebrating our annual Sheep Trailing Days. We are thankful they had a good season up on the summer mountain ranges.

Music was enjoyed before dinner with the Worleys, and later, the Bar D Wranglers once again put on a great show with humor and entertaining songs.

A wide variety of cookies, even some gluten-free, were laid out on the table to pick up along with dinner. With our cold weather, we offered coffee along with lemonade and water.

We couldn't pull this event off without our many volunteers who prepared the food and baked a big variety of cookies. Again, we thank everyone who made this a very successful, fun evening.

Our local Rotary, Lions, Community Bank and Heritage Society members organized the Saturday events. We hope many enjoyed the Heritage Days and will come again.
