The youngest Bayfield team in the Young American Football League survived two weeks of playoffs and moves onto the YAFL Superbowl Saturday in Farmington.

The third-grade team won 34-13 against Bloomfield on Saturday and will play Aztec at 9 a.m. at Doc Jones Field in Farmington.

Bloomfield was seeded first among all third-grade teams in the playoffs, and Bayfield was ranked fourth.

"We beat them pretty good!" said Head Coach Justin Ross. Bayfield fumbled the ball on the opening kickoff, "but we worked through the adversity, kept our heads up, and played a good game," he said.

Tyler Harriman scored three touchdowns, and Tavion Box had several good carries for the team. Caden Ross scored another touchdown for the team, as well.

"Our offensive line did a great job blocking all day," he said. The line is anchored by Tristyn Vavrina, the team's center.

On defense, Caden Schneider, a defensive end, made several key tackles, and Rhyen Riegel made an important fumble recovery for the Wolverines. Switching to defense, Box also made a big interception for the team.

The team has lost three games this year, and two of the losses were to tomorrow's opponent, Aztec.

"It will be a tough game for us, but we're very confident we can win," Ross said. He has been assisted this year by Clay Rathjen, Willie Riegel, Jake Nossaman and Daniel Russell.

"The coaches have been a huge help this season," Ross said. The parents also have been supportive in cheering on the boys.

"It's been a great season," Ross said. "We are jazzed and ready to go. We want to win this game."

The remaining Bayfield teams in last week's semi-final games didn't fare as well. Fourth grade lost 20-0 against Durango, and fifth grade lost 13-0 to Aztec.
