Retired teacher urges 'Yes' vote on 3B

Please vote for yes for 3B. This is an issue I am very passionate about! I am a retired teacher of Bayfield School District.

My own children went through the Bayfield School system. Over the years I had many parents tell me our schools were the reason they moved to Bayfield. I have experienced firsthand the growth in the school district. Kindergarteners were moved out of the elementary school in 2004 because the elementary school was out of classroom space.

That was 12 years ago!

First grade followed a few years later. It doesn't make sense to keep putting money into renovations at the original campus where parts of the building have been condemned.

The administration has not been careless with funds in the district. There are very well thought-out plans for building a new school for grades 3-5, and renovating the existing elementary school to house kindergarten through second grade. The plans allow for enrollment growth for many years to come. The district has been awarded an $8.5 million grant IF 3B passes!

The first item that will be addressed, if the bond passes, is to improve the drop off/traffic issues at both the elementary school and the middle school. Those changes would be in place for the 2017 school year.

Property taxes will go up, (estimated to be an increase of $6 per month for every $100,000 of a home's value), but this should strengthen our housing market.

Children are our future. Please make them a priority in Bayfield. Strong schools make a strong community. Please vote yes on 3B.
