Rock, R&B comes to the Community Concert Hall with Welshly Arms

Bank kicks off new series, 'Artists You Need to Know'
Welshly Arms performs Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Community Concert Hall in Durango.

Contemporary rock/R&B will warm up the winter night at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College as Welshly Arms takes the stage Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The dance floor will be open.

Welshly Arms, which has its roots in the heart of Midwestern rock 'n' roll and blues, is the first of a new series for the Community Concert Hall, "Artists You Need to Know."

"So often we have these musical gems that are well-known in their local areas, but have difficulty selling tickets in a broader market," said Concert Hall Director Charles Leslie. "It's part of our mission to bring new and exciting music to the hall, and so we're asking you to trust us when we announce a band or musician as one of the 'Artists You Need to Know.' I'm going to assure you that if you're a fan of classic R&B and rock, you won't be disappointed with Welshly Arms."

Formed in Cleveland, Ohio, the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Welshly Arms creates a fresh "throwback" sound that pays homage to the band members' collective influences from a town rich with musical history, including bands such as The Ojays, The James Gang and The Black Keys. Original material from Welshly Arms echoes memories of Jimi Hendrix, The Temptations, Otis Redding and Howlin' Wolf. Welshly Arms honors its hometown by writing, producing, and recording all material in Cleveland.

Named after a "Saturday Night Live" skit, Welshly Arms is made up of founder Sam Getz (guitar/vocals), Brett Lindemann (keys), Jimmy Weaver (bass), Mikey Gould (drums), and Bri and Jon Bryant (background vocals).

In recent years, the power of the band's live shows has built a dedicated following in Ohio, and it set the stage for a growing national following in 2016 with performances at The Rock Boat, SXSW, Summerfest, ACL and more. The 2017 winter tour takes the band further afield, not only to Colorado, but also Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and New York. Recently, the band's music was featured in the trailer for Jack Black's film The D Train, a national campaign for the Cleveland Indians, a promo for the Netflix show "Sense8," and in the trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Hateful Eight.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season in 2017, the Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
