Jonatha Brooke performing Jan. 27 in Durango

Jonatha Brooke

KSUT and the Henry Strater Theatre present an evening with Jonatha Brooke at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $23 in advance and $27 at the door and are on sale now at

Brooke has been described as a "down-to-earth poet with a forceful voice." She's also a longtime Four Corners favorite, having performed numerous times in the region over the past 20-plus years, beginning with a 1994 concert at the Henry Strater Theatre with her indie-folk duo, The Story. She's also a veteran of past Community Concert Hall performances.

Brooke's music blends folk, rock and pop, often with poignant lyrics and complex harmonies. She's released 10 solo records and a pair with The Story, which also featured singer/songwriter Jennifer Kimball. She released her latest record, "Midnight. Hallelujah." to wide critical acclaim last October. The record deviates from the sparse instrumentation of her recent releases to incorporate a broader mix of instruments. Tracks like "Put the Gun Down," "Nothing Sacred" and "Mean Looking Jesus" ponder the relationships between people and their beliefs and religion.

KSUT executive director Tami Graham will host Brooke in a KSUT live session at 1:06 p.m. on the day of the show. KSUT sessions give listeners a rare glimpse into the stories behind the songs and include live, in-studio performances.

KSUT is a community-supported public broadcasting organization dedicated to serving the multicultural community of the Four Corners by providing eclectic entertainment, education, in-depth news and community and public information services promoting multicultural awareness and understanding through two signals: Four Corners Public Radio and Southern Ute Tribal Radio.
