Day of classes, march are tomorrow in Durango

Republicans hosting "DeploraBall" tonight

A day of free classes is planned for tomorrow at the Smiley Building in Durango, along with a mid-day march and rally in downtown Durango in response to today's inauguration of Donald Trump as president.

On Saturday, classes will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Classes offered from 9 to 10 a.m. are White Privilege with Tara Frazer; Nia Dance with Evonne Tocco; and "How to speak out on climate change legislation," by the Citizen's Climate Lobby.

From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. are Nonviolent Communication with Rachel Turiel; Healing the Heart Yoga with Sheryl McGourty; and Activist Training 101 with Dr. Anthony Nocella II.

The "Standing on the Side of Love" march will start at noon at the train station and go north to Buckley Park.

Back at Smiley, Michael Rendon will talk about local activism and letting your voice be heard from 1:30 to 2:30.

Classes from 3 to 4 p.m. will be Hatha Yoga with Joy Kilpatrick; A Local Perspective on Migration and Immigration Policy with Danny Quinlan; and A People's History of Social Change with Dr. Becky Clausen.

Classes from 4:30 to 5:30 will be Tai Chi for Earth Protectors with Tyler VanGemert; The Activist's Dance: Compassion and Action with Judy Austin LPC; and Speak Up: Tools to Combat Bigotry with Emma Salazar and Nancy Stoffer.

La Plata County Republicans, meanwhile, will host a celebration and "DeploraBall" starting at 5 p.m. tonight at the Elks Lodge in Durango. A potluck dish to share or a cash donation to pay for the room rental are appreciated. There will be a pinata for the kids.
