Johnson soars for BHS in Bloomfield

Senior breaks school reacord, Foutz wins high jump
Amber Johnson had a stellar meet on Friday, breaking a school record in the 200-meter dash and taking third in the 100 meters, shown here.

Having seen her possible first-place 13.17 in the 100-meter dash bettered in the following eighth and final heat last Friday, Amber Johnson took her revenge at twice the distance.

Winning the 2017 Bloomfield Quad's 200 in 26.73 seconds, the Bayfield senior not only defeated 100 winner Chelsie Hobbs of the hosting 5A Bobcats, but earned the second of her BHS-leading four top-five results in the team's last event before April. Her time in the 200 meters also set a new school record.

Johnson also took third in the 100m hurdles, with her 16.95 ranking behind 5A Kirtland Central's Kambree Pierro (16.27) and Bloomfield's Krystal Hosteen (16.91). She then avenged that outcome with a winning 47.76 in the 300-meters hurdles, well ahead of 4A Shiprock's Ashinee George (49.30) and Pierro (49.85). In the 100, Johnson's time ended up third-fastest.

Placing third overall behind co-champions KCHS and Bloomfield (95 points each), the Lady Wolverines (92.75 points) also left Bobcat Stadium and Curtis Clement Memorial Track with victors in the pole vault (Maddi Foutz, 8'6"), high jump (Jordan Lanning, 5'0") and 4x400 relay (Isis Gonzales/Bridget Goddard/Olivia Keitz/Foutz, 4:28.36).

Goddard placed second in both the 400 meters (1:04.87) and 800 (2:34.24), while Lanning did likewise in both the long (15'6.75") and triple (33'1.25") jumps. Topped by only Bloomfield's Jaimie Kosea (35'5") in the shot put, Tiarra Christensen (31'8") scored Bayfield third-place points in the discus with her 91'6" best.

Teammate Mikayla Barnes was fourth in the shot (30'8"), and also earning fourths were the 4x100 (Emma Candelaria/Rachel Bauer/Jade Sanders/Claire Belmear, 58.05) and sprint medley (Mylee Sanders/Bauer/Claudia Vega/Skyla Ruybal, 5:21.79) relays.

The 4x2 (Vega/Mylee Sanders/Keitz/Jessica George) finished in fifth place with a 2:05.02 clocking. George's 4'4" high jump also landed her in fifth, as did Foutz's 13.46 in the 100 meters.

The Lady Wolverines will next travel to Grand Junction on April 1 for the Mickey Dunn Invitational.
