 IHS principal placed on administrative leave

The Ignacio School Board has placed Gary Witherspoon, the principal at Ignacio High School, on paid administrative leave for the rest of the school year.
The board voted 5-0 on Thursday night to place him on leave after it had voted 3-2 not to to renew Witherspoon's contract for the next school year.
A capacity crowd filled the board room at Thursday's meeting, speaking both in support of and against Witherspoon's tenure at IHS. He has been the principal for the 2011-2012 school year.
At the end of the meeting at 11:30 p.m., the board went into executive session to discuss coaching appointments, but said it would not make a decision that night. The next school board meeting is scheduled for May 10.
