Bayfield school vote splits, Democrats lead in commission races 11/6/2012 By: Times staff report
Bayfield's school bond and mill levy override face a split vote, according to early results from the La Plata County Clerk's office.
On the mill levy override, 2,025 people voted yes, and 1,640 voted no. On the bond issue, however, there are 1,813 votes for the bond, and 1,835 against.
These are results from early voting and mail-in ballots. So far, 21,445 votes have been tallied in La Plata County.
In the county commission races, Democrats Julie Holligan Westendorff and Gwen Lachelt are leading the races. Westendorff has 10,751 votes, and Harry Baxstrom has 9,945.
Lachelt has 10,741 votes and Kellie Hotter has 10,039.
On the state representative race, Mike MacLachlan has 11,331 votes, while incumbent Republican J. Paul Brown has 9,358.
