Boy missing in Vallecito
11/13/2012 By: Times staff report

Here is the latest update from the sheriff's office, as of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday:

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation of a 13 year old boy who has been missing since Monday. Dylan Redwine was reported missing Monday afternoon by his father, Mark Redwine. Mark Redwine lives in Vallecito, Colorado about 22 miles northeast of Durango, in La Plata County. Dylan was staying at his father’s house since Sunday as part of a court ordered Thanksgiving holiday visitation. Dylan and his mother and brother moved to Colorado Springs last summer.

Dylan was last seen at his father’s house by his father at about 7:30AM Monday. Dylan was gone when his father returned to the house at about 11:30AM after running some errands in town. Dylan is described as 13 years old, 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes. It is not known what clothing he may be wearing. He may have a black backpack with him.

Members of La Plata County Search & Rescue searched for Dylan Monday night and all day Tuesday, using ground search teams and Search K-9’s. The search area includes the shoreline around Vallecito Lake, several small subdivisions, two county roads, steep wooded hillsides and hiking trails. Many of the homes in the area are seasonal while some are occupied year around.

A resident who knows Dylan reported seeing him walking along County Road 501 in Vallecito Monday afternoon with another boy about the same age. Both had backpacks. The resident was not aware Dylan had been reported missing until Tuesday.

1 report Tuesday afternoon of a person running from Search & Rescue personnel into a forest, turned out to be a jogger. A second similar sighting was reported nearby at about the same time. It is not known if the second sighting was the same jogger or may have been Dylan.

Sheriff’s Office investigators are interviewing family members and other people who know Dylan.
The Sheriff’s Office is not ruling out the possibility of an abduction but are also exploring the possibility that Dylan may be a runaway. Some family members indicated Dylan may not have been in favor of the court ordered visit this week. Dylan lived and attended school for years in the area and is known by many people.

Dylan’s mother, Eileen, and his older brother came to Durango when he was first reported missing and remain in the area. Both parents are cooperating with investigators. Search & Rescue personnel are on stand-by today (Wednesday) in case new leads are developed that could direct them to new search areas. Investigators are also retracing Dylan’s route from Colorado Springs to Durango and places he may have visited after his arrival.

Anyone who may have information on Dylan’s whereabouts are asked to contact La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Investigators Dan Patterson (970-382-7015) or Tom Cowing (970-382-7045).

La Plata County Sheriff’s deputies and volunteers were searching Tuesday for a 13-year-old boy missing from his father’s home in Vallecito on Monday.

Dylan Redwine is 5 feet tall, 105 lbs with medium length blonde hair and blue eyes
He was reported missing between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. Monday from the 2300 block of County Road 500. It is unknown what clothing he was wearing, but may have been carrying a backpack.

Redwine previously lived in Bayfield and moved this spring with his mother, Elaine Hatfield, to Colorado Springs. He was back to visit his father, Mark Redwine, for Thanksgiving break.
A friend of Hatfield’s mother said Dylan is close to his parents and wouldn’t leave and not contact them.

La Plata County emergency officials were combing the area. Residents were being asked to check their outbuildings. A military helicopter was reported to be searching around Vallecito.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Dylan, please call 385-2900. If any landowners in the area had game cameras out for hunting season, please check them!
