Want romance this week? Or chocolate? 2/13/2013 By: Melanie Brubaker Mazur
If you can't have love on Valentine's Day, you can at least have chocolate. Ideally, of course, you have both. If you need some ideas for presents or events for your sweetie, read on.
* Want to take someone's breath away? Send a singing valentine! The Durango Barbershop Quartet will come to your honey on Thursday and sing two romantic songs and deliver a box of chocolates and a red carnation. To reserve a time, call 247-5073. *Need flowers? Ignacio Floral has gifts, plants, bouquets and Rocky Mountain Chocolates, with delivery! Place orders for the local schools by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Call 563-4070 or visit their store on Goddard Avenue in downtown Durango. They have extended hours Wednesday and Thursday. *More flowers? The Grocery Store at Bayfield has a wide selection of bouquets ready this week for cash and carry. They also have balloons and other fun Valentine gifts.
And for the big night? We have three local options for you that all sound divine, and no drive to Durango is required! * The Patio in Ignacio will have its annual Valentine's dinner from 3 p.m. to close. It includes an appetizer, soup or salad, and beef tenderloins with a heart-shaped shrimp scampi. Dessert is white chocolate cheesecake with chocolate-dipped strawberries for $35 for two. *Sky Ute Casino offers a Night of Roses, featuring dinner and live music in the Aspen Room. Dinner includes a prawn cocktail, filet of beef with lobster, or swordfish, a steak, or coconut almond chicken. Dessert is a chocolate-dipped white chocolate cake. Dinner is $38.95 per couple and includes a complimentary drink and rose. *The Schank House has a special dinner not only Thursday, but also on Friday and Saturday for valentines who want to celebrate on the weekend. The special includes a porterhouse steak for two, two sides, crab legs or shrimp, and two glasses of wine for $50 per couple. The Schank House is located on the shore of Vallecito Reservoir. Call 884-9150 for reservations.
* Still need a gift? A gift certificate for a romantic portrait fills the bill nicely. Salon del Sol will get your guy or gal looking good, and Glenn Tinnin Photography will capture the images. All of this, and a little black book with 24 pictures, is $199. To order your certificate or book an appointment, call Glenn at 759-2842. •Plaza Video offers the ultimate night in. They have a selection of romantic movies ready to pick out, and a take and bake pizza to take home. The store is open until 7 p.m. Thursday and is located in the Bayfield Center Plaza.
Whether you're having a night out or staying home with your kids and pets, the Times staff wishes you a fun and chocolate-filled Valentine's Day!
