Ignacio teams going to regional finals

The Ignacio boys thumped Paonia Friday night in the first round of Region 3 basketball action, winning the game 56-29. Ignacio led the game from the get-go, starting the game 6-0 after two three-point shots, and the Bobcats never looked back.
Same for the Ignacio girls, who defeated Sanford 57 to 47. Michelle Simmons led the girls for the entire game, boosted by the Cotton sisters and Gabby Garcia, who scored 11 points.
The Bayfield girls fought a tough game against Trinidad in the 3A tournament, but lost 41-31. The Wolverines were ahead at the half, however, 16-14.
The IHS girls play tomorrow at 1 p.m. against
either Del Norte or Paonio followed by the boys at 2:30 p.m. The Bobcat boys will play the winner of the Sargent-Lutheran game tonight. Games are at Durango High School.
