Bobcats lose second game at state 3/14/2013 By: Times staff report
Ignacio girls made it to state, but they couldn't seal the games, losing to Sangre de Cristo in a consolation game, 54-45.
They lost yesterday to Akron, 60-39. The good news is, although they lost five seniors this year to graduation, they'll have seven underclassmen back next year, all with state tourney experience! Congratulations to the 2012-2013 girls: Jordan Cuthair, Ellie Seibel, Michelle Simmons, Roshae Weaver, Cloe Seibel, Gabby Garcia, Valerie Armstrong, Pamela Cotton, Sky Cotton, Mariah Vigil, Chrystianne Valdez and Deja Herrera. We are proud of you for making state!
Top scorers in Friday's game were Michelle Simmons with 12 and Valerie Armstrong with 10 each. (Maybe a couple more for Michelle.) Read Joel Priest's coverage in the Friday, March 22 edition.
Thursday's update: In spite of a tough performance by Michelle Simmons and defensive bravado by Gabriela Garcia, the Ignacio Bobcat girls lost the first round of state, 60-39, on Thursday morning.
The loss was tough, but it was against a state tourney favorite, Akron, which has lost one game in two years.
The Bobcat girls now move to the consolation bracket. They play at 10:15 a.m. Friday against either Sangre de Cristo or Peyton, who play Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Come back and get 'em, girls!
