No fireworks, but other Independence Day events set for Thursday

There won't be fireworks in Bayfield or Vallecito this year, but other Independence Day activities will take place as usual.
The Lions Club pancake breakfast is from 7 to 10 a.m. in the Lions Hall on Church Street.
Next door, Calvary Presbyterian Church will start its famous pie and bake sale at 8 a.m.
The Mill Street Drug pet parade is set for 9:30. The BIG parade is at 10 a.m., and this year's grand marshal is Jim Frahm. Then party in Joe Stephenson park! The horseshoe tournament starts at noon, and the softball tournament at 1 p.m.
The dance team booth includes a dunking machine and slip and slide for the kids, plus great food!
The beer tent is operated by Pine River Rotary. No fireworks this year. Have a happy Independence Day!
Stage 2 fire restrictions are in effect for BLM and National Forest lands.
Obituary notice for Shirley Norice Hyde Evans
Shirley Norice Hyde Evans, 77, died May 25, 2013 in Black Canyon City, Ariz.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 7, 1935. In 1940, John Milton and Helen Hyde adopted Shirley Norice and her brothers James and Ronald. Nola was adopted in 1942.
She graduated from Downey High School in 1953 and attended Ricks College. In 1955, she married Seth Parker Evans in the Logan Temple. Their children and their spouses include Kevin and Karen Evans, Denise and James Copeland, Patricia and Ronald Taylor Della and Barney Barnett, Patrick and Bessie Natonie, Mae Natonie, Mary White, and Rose Ann Bekay. They have 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She attended Phoenix College and completed her associate degree. She worked as a secretary and had a business making wedding flowers and cakes. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, with her favorite calling being a ward organist, where she served for 63 years. All who knew her will miss her music.
Memorial services are at 11 a.m. July 5, 2013, at the LDS Chapel in Bayfield. Burial will be in Pine River Cemetery.
