Scam text asking for bank account information
9/23/2013 By: Times staff report
Lots of folks in the area got a text this morning saying it was from a local bank, their cards had been deactivated, then asking customers to call a 24-hour card service number. It is a scam.
Legitimate banks have that information, and they will never ask a customer for an account number, said a representative at Pine River Valley Bank. Customers should never reveal bank account or passwords to anyone calling, texting or e-mailing.
More information about bank security is available at www.prvb.com or from First National Bank of Durango at www.fnbdurango.com.

Ignacio school board cancels elections

Ignacio School District will not have a board election this fall.
Directors canceled the election on Sept. 12 because there were two eligible candidates for two vacant seats. Board president Ed McCaw said a third person turned in a candidate petition that did not have the required 25 signatures from eligible electors.
The board declared that Luke Kirk and Bobby Schurman are elected. They will be sworn in in November and will replace term- limited McCaw and director Robert Jefferson.
Both Kirk and Schurman were at the Sept. 12 meeting.
