Suspicious man reported outside BES
Times staff report
Bayfield schools sent out alerts Thursday afternoon to parents about a suspicious man taking photos of students during their morning recess at the elementary school on Mustang Lane.
However, it turns out to be a mistake. Marshal Joe McIntyre said he got a tip and contacted the man that afternoon. It turns out he is thinking of moving to the area and was taking pictures of the school to show his family.
McIntyre did say he explained to the man that this wasn’t a good practice. No arrests were made, he said.
The letter from Elementary/ Primary School Principal Diane Chambers said, “I thought you should know that a man was seen taking pictures of students from the outside of the fence during a morning recess today. The Marshals, teachers, and all Bayfield schools were notified immediately, and the Marshal’s department is conducting an investigation.”
She continued, “If your child walks to and from school, please remind them about the importance of walking with a group, as well as not talking to strangers. We will remain diligent about our safety practices, and I want you to know that the safety of our kids is our top priority.”
Chambers urged people to call police if they see anything suspicious.
Bayfield Marshal Joe McIntyre told the Times that deputies checked the area around BES as well as notifying the other schools. They also checked the grounds at other schools but didn’t find anything.
Deputies were at BES for Thursday afternoon dismissal and around the area.
