Arboles resident arrested for alleged sexual assault on child 1/18/2008 By:
An Arboles resident, Patrick Maurice Adams, 40, was arrested Friday, Jan. 4, by officers from the Archuleta County Sheriff Office and jailed on charges of sexual assault on a child and enticement — both felony offenses.
Deputies executed a search warrant and an arrest warrant at a residence on Runaround Road in Arboles following receipt of evidence obtained in the investigation of an alleged sexual assault on a nine-year-old child. The law enforcement officials seized Adams’ computer and various other items during the search.
According to Det. Sgt. Carl Smith of the Archuleta County Sheriff Office, Adams is a registered sex offender who was previously arrested in Delaware on charges of sexual assault on a child. Smith said Adams pleaded guilty in Delaware to the lesser offense of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. Adams, said Smith, has been registered in Archuleta County as a sex offender since 2004. Following Adams’ arrest, Smith said a second possible victim has surfaced and said his department is searching for more.
“Any parents of young male children who have had contact with Adams should speak with their child,” said Smith. “If there is any suspicion something has occurred, contact me or Detective Richard Valdez at the sheriff’s office, at 264-2131.” Adams was still in custody yesterday in the Archuleta County Jail. His bond is set at $250,000 cash.
