Bayfield water limits and San Ignacio Fiesta
7/23/2010 By: Times staff

Bayfield starting outdoor watering restrictions
Times staff report
The Town of Bayfield is imposing restrictions on the use of municipal water for landscaping. Watering with municipal water will not be allowed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
Additionally, residents and businesses will be restricted from watering certain days. Odd numbered addresses will be allowed to water on odd numbered calendar days and even numbered addresses will be allowed to water on even numbered calendar days.
The restrictions are imposed due the unusually dry and hot summer. The Pine River has gone “on call,” which means many of the Town’s water rights will not be available for water treatment.
The town purchases storage water from the Pine River Irrigation District to ensure there is adequate water during dry spells. However, the town needs to protect against excessive use, which could require the town to purchase more water, which in turn can affect water rates.
The restrictions do not apply to residents using irrigation water.
Residents who violated the water restrictions will be given one courtesy warning. If violations continue, residents will be issued fines on their next water bill. Continued violations can lead to water being shut off.
Public Works Director Ron Saba says, “We understand that it’s inconvenient to follow the water restrictions. We only do this when it’s absolutely necessary. Ultimately, we’re really just looking out for the ratepayer.”

110th annual San Ignacio Fiesta set for July 24-25
Times staff report
San Ignacio Fiesta will take place this year on July 24-25 in downtown Ignacio, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, and at the Sky Ute Casino Resort.
Events start Saturday, July 24, with the 65th annual Fiesta parade at 10 a.m. Parade line-ups start at 9 a.m., with no entry fee and cash prizes. Pre-registration is not required, but participants are asked to fill out a form that day.
After the parade, events at Town Park include live music by Telekave from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., grilled hamburgers and hotdogs by local Scout troops, kids’ games, a watermelon eating contest, face painting, and a duck race. Duck race tickets cost $5 and are available at the SUCAP office on Goddard Avenue or by calling 563-4517.
A new event this year will be an artists fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ignacio Elementary School parking lot. For more information, call Howard Searle at 759-4040.
The softball tournament takes place both days, and registration is available by calling 563-0214.
The horseshoe tournament is Saturday in town park, and sign ups are due by 11 a.m. The cost is $5 per person per entry, and there are cash prizes and sweatshirts.
The fun concludes that evening with the Fiesta dance from 8 p.m. to midnight at Sky Ute Casino Resort. Music will be performed by Ritmo. Entry is $10 per person, with a cash bar and concessions available.
On Sunday, the Fiesta Mass is at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius, with the Rev. Douglas Hunt celebrating. The Fiesta Dinner starts at approximately noon, with pit-cooked beef, chili and more. Ritmo will perform again, and there will also be snow cones, a bazaar, bingo for fun, and the annual raffle drawing at 2 p.m. Raffle tickets are $1 each for six for $5, and tickets are available by calling 563-4241 or stopping by the church office.
