 Bobcats heading to 2-A Region II Championships

HE HAS A GRIP ON THINGS: Ignacio senior Teagan Overturf works over Nucla’s Cody Terrell during a match at 160 pounds last Friday in Norwood at the San Juan Basin League Championships. Overturf went 3-0 to win the weight’s title, joining teammates Alex Pena (3-0 at 126) and Jeff Herrera (2-0 at 132) as individual champions. IHS tied the Mustangs for fourth place with 18 team points, trailing Dolores (23), the host Mavericks (25) and first-place Dove Creek (36). Up next, the Bobcats will head out to Sargent H.S. northeast of Monte Vista for this weekend’s 2A-Region II Championships. Here are the current wrestlers’ records-to-date: 113--Taylor Smith 3-18, 126--Pena 27-2, 132--Herrera 18-13, 160--Overturf 36-8, 170--Blaine Mickey 5-24, 195--Colton Wyatt 22-5.
